VacationHouse Destinations is featured on AOL

July 21, 2010

We’re excited to be featured on AOL’s Real Estate homepage in a story that highlights tips for renting vacation homes.  You can check out the full story here. A few more tips we would give you when renting a vacation house:

1. FIND A TRUSTED SOURCE OF VACATION HOME RENTALS
The most important thing someone can do is work with a reputable company that takes the guesswork out of which homes to rent. There are a lot of scams on the Internet with properties that look good on the Web photos, but in reality are completely different when you get there. Look for a company that physically inspects each property before renting it to you, so what you see when you get there, is the same thing you expected. Of course, working with VacationHouse Destinations, you already know we take the guesswork out of finding the perfect getaway.

2. NOT EVERY PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
A place might look luxurious in photos, but when you get there, you didn’t realize you had to bring your own linens and toilet paper. Work with a trusted source that inspects each property before you go there so you’re never left guessing if a property is “really that nice.”

3. PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD
You can add an extra layer of protection when reserving your home by paying with a credit card. You can weed out some vacation home scammers who only want check or cash and a little extra that they “will send back to you once they deposit the check.” Most reputable vacation home owners take credit cards to help you feel more confident.

4. MAPPING SOFTWARE IS YOUR FRIEND
Mapquest can be your friend – while the location might be Popular Destination, USA – you don’t want the vacation house to be located right next to the railroad tracks (unless you like trains of course).

VacationHouse Destinations Wins Excellence Award in Hotel and Lodging

SEATTLE,  May 21, 2008 – VacationHouse Destinations, the first truly affordable destination club, today announced it was honored by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, with a 2008 Excellence Award in the Interactive Hotel and Lodging Category. With over 9,000 entries from across the US and around the world, the Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals.

“We’re thrilled to have been selected for this award,” said Tony Bacso, co-founder of VacationHouse Destinations.  “This award is a testament to the hard work of our team to create a high quality user experience that keeps people coming back to our company.”

“The incredible quality and diversity of this year’s entries was an inspiration to the academy and all of our judges.  The work reflected the rapidly changing media landscape as the growing amounts of interactive work submitted pushed the limits of the medium, and the quality of the traditional work submitted was again remarkable,” noted Linda Day, director of the IAVA.  She added, “On behalf of the entire Academy, we are honored to have judged the 14th Annual Communicator Awards and we are proud to honor the best in creativity and execution from the foremost communications professionals in the business.”

For the first time, the 14th Annual Communicator Awards is being overseen and sanctioned by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Alloy, Brandweek, Coach, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Estee Lauder, Fry Hammond Barr, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Victoria’s Secret, Wired, and Yahoo!

Winning entries for the Communicator Awards are selected by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. All decisions of the judges are final. Entries are judged to evaluate distinction in creative work. In determining Excellence and Distinction Winners, entries are judged on their merits based on a standard of excellence based on the 14 year history of the Communicator Awards, considering the category entered. A category may have multiple winners, or may have none. Entries are scored on a ten point scale by the judges. Generally, Excellence Winners receive a score of 9.0 or above and Distinction Winners receive a score of 7.0 to 8.9.

VacationHouse Destinations Launches Trial by Night Promotion

Vacationers can use the club properties for up to 7 nights with no commitment to join

SEATTLE,  March 9, 2007 VacationHouse Destinations, the first truly affordable destination club, today announced the launch of its Trial by Night Promotion, where vacationers can use the club properties for up to 7 nights with no obligation to join.  This newly developed program will give people the opportunity to vacation as if they were members in this popular destination club, without a commitment to join.

We’ve had prospective members tell us that they want to try out the properties and see for themselves what it would feel like if they had a portfolio of vacation homes to getaway to whenever they wanted,” said Tony Bacso, co-founder of VacationHouse Destinations.  “When someone joins the club, the only surprise we want them to have is how beautiful the homes are and how easy it is to use them.”

The Trial by Night program will allow vacationers to use any of the club’s properties on a nightly basis, up to a total of 7 nights.  The $300 joining fee is waived, and the charge is a simple nightly fee of $169 and a minimal $50 cleaning fee for as many nights they want to use, up to a total of 7.  This program hopes to provide vacationers with the experience of what it would be like to use vacation homes for spur-of-the-moment getaways or for longer retreats.

“The goal of this promotion is to give people the opportunity to use the club properties and see if it’s someplace they can see themselves enjoying,” said Tony Bacso.  “This gives people the opportunity to vacation like our members do, without joining the club.  If people don’t agree that we have beautiful homes and the level of service we provide them is anything other then top-notch, then we’re happy to give them information about other properties that are in the same area and price range so they can truly compare the value we provide versus finding homes online and not really knowing what you’ll find when you get there.”

VacationHouse Destinations Launches First Affordable Destination Club
Club gives members the luxury of vacation homes without high costs and restrictions

SEATTLE, November 20, 2006 – VacationHouse Destinations, the first truly affordable destination club, today announced the launch of its much anticipated portfolio offering to the public.  The Company gives its members the luxury of a vacation house experience without the costs of second home ownership.  Breaking out of the mold of luxury destination clubs, VacationHouse Destinations is geared towards everyone that wants to have access to great vacation homes without second mortgages and upkeep worries at an affordable price.

Destination clubs are based on a model similar to country clubs.  For a one-time refundable membership deposit and annual dues, members gain access to a portfolio of vacation properties in desirable locations.  Club members can use the residences when it's convenient for their schedules and are not restricted to one specific property or particular weeks like timeshares and fractional ownership clubs.  Destination club members pay annual dues for a certain number of days that can be used each year based on their travel lifestyle.  Club members have access to VacationHouse Destinations' exclusive PassBook reservation system that allows members to make online reservations in real-time 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“We were looking for an easy way to vacation without having to spend hours researching properties and worrying about what we would find when we got there,” said Maria Cser, a Platinum club member.  “We decided to join VacationHouse Destinations because they provided us with the solution that allows us to quickly make a reservation and get away for a trip when it’s convenient for us.  They’ve taken the guesswork and stress out of finding the perfect place to go.  We never worry that a property we stay at will be anything less then wonderful.”

VacationHouse Destinations has established relationships with property owners in desirable locations that allow the club to easily add new properties to its portfolio in exciting destinations.  The club will also lease and purchase properties as the membership base grows.

“Anyone who has ever rented a private vacation home has dealt with the frustrations of arriving at the property and being let down because it didn’t meet expectations.” said Tony Bacso co-founder of VacationHouse Destinations.  “Luxury destination clubs have come up with a great solution but are restricted to membership costs that are only affordable by the select few.  By working within a similar model that incorporates the benefits and convenience of destination clubs, we created a club model that drastically reduces costs for members and makes it affordable to nearly everyone.”

VacationHouse Destinations memberships are available with a one-time membership fee of $300 and annual dues of $2,450 for a Silver membership that grants the Club Member access to any of the clubs properties for 14 days a year.
